Signs of change

An ordinary bookshop - same black shop front, unsuspecting member of public strolling by. But look a bit closer. See anything different?
When we opened the shop, we thought we needed a hanging sign. Three years later we finally got one. The only thing is, we may now need to get the entire front of the shop re-done in the new livery...

  1. On a related note - anyone know if you need planning permission to change the colour of your shop???

  2. Probably. But I think the sign works with the shop as it is. The red-on-white stands out for shoppers looking down the street. The black stands out for shoppers looking across the road. A winner in two planes of vision.

  3. If you painted it white there would be a big block of white frontage taken with your upstairs and next door. The black stands out currently.

  4. You could build this into a local talking point - write to the local paper asking for views on it etc. You might attract some attention, and bring in new customers? You certainly want to draw it to the attention of people walking past, at the very least.

I like the black shop front, and wouldn't change it.
